Problems permitting we hope to be setting off south in late May heading down the Rhône for the Languedoc and the Canal du Midi. We went this way in 2001 but left it too late to do the Canal du Midi before the bumper boats clogged it up and never got further than Béziers. Jackie has kindly agreed that we can have another go and will be very brave about the huge Rhône locks. The rise and fall of the deepest, Bollène is 26m! anyone wanting to cruise in company for moral support will be very welcome.
Our route should take us south from St Jean de Losne through Chalon sur Saône to Lyon where we will join the mighty Rhône. If anyone has any tips about mooring in Lyon I should love to hear from them. Moorings on the Rhône are few and far between and we plan to stop at Les Roches de Condrieu, Valence, Viviers and Avignon before turning onto the Petite Rhône and into the Camargue.
I will start the blog around the 20th May so do have a look if you want to follow our progress. And please give us a shout if you see Dorabella on the waterways. Have a great summer.
